A Letter from U.S. Senator John McCain

A Momento of Your Hero

If you would like to receive a rubbing(tracing) of your loved one's name, please complete the form on this page, or send an email to us at info@NorthwoodMemorial.com with your hero's full name and KIA date along with your mail address, telephone number and a note saying if you need more than one rubbing. Please allow at least two weeks for your request to be filled by a volunteer.

To search the list of names currently on the Memorial Click here and enter the fallen hero's last name in the search box then press the Enter key.

Currently, the names of heroes who died between October 1, 2001 and September 30, 2011 are engraved on the panels of the Memorial.

The names of fallen service members engraved on the Memorial are taken from the official Department of Defense weekly casualty reports for:

  • Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)

  • Operation Iraqi Freedom

  • Operation New Dawn (Iraq)

The decision to include a death within one of these casualty reports rests exclusively with the Department of Defense. The caretakers of the Memorial use these lists as the basis of what names to include. Consistent with the stated purpose of the Memorial, the only changes to these lists have been to include only the deaths of uniformed service members from the military and the U.S. Coast Guard. While honored, the names of American service members who have died while on duty but not related to these conflicts are not engraved in this Memorial.

Welcome

Welcome Gold Star Families,

Please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. This Memorial has always been about neighbors mourning the loss of neighbors across the nation - wherever they called home. Since Memorial Day 2003 volunteers and the public here in Southern California have come together to honor and remember your loved ones. Now with their names engraved in granite they will live on in the hearts and minds of Americans forever. May God bless them and you.

Please help us spread the word about the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial. Tell at least two other Gold Star Families so they too may know that their Fallen Hero is being honored and remembered. Thank You.
