Morning

Volunteers early on Sunday morning placing 800 candles in the beautiful displays.

Working out the details of the day with some of the Marines who played an important role in the day's ceremonies.

The Patriot Guard Riders came to pay their respects to the fallen and their families. The Gold Star families gave them a hearty round of applause.

Attendees showed their feelings in many ways on Sunday.

Gold Star Ceremony

The Orange County Fire Authority bagpiper led off both ceremonies by piping in the Colors.

Cherish Nunnally graced us throughout the day with the national anthem, "Remember the Brave" and "If Heaven was Needing a Hero"

Volunteer and Marine veteran Bill Tidwell spoke directly with the Gold Star families, giving a message of comfort to those who have lost a loved one.

After the Ceremonies

Ricky Vaughn points to his father's name.

A Marine does a rubbing of a lost friend's name. Several hundred rubbings were done during the day by vsitors to the Memorial.

Sgt Sam Lynn stands next to a granite sentinel awash with soft lighting at dusk. Earlier, he joined Dallas Parker, the younger brother of PFC Daniel Parker who died in 2003, in leading the audience in the pledge of allegience.
